APPLICATION FOR SOMETHING

I have been applying for freelance photography jobs with different management companies. I have a list of artists I feel my photography style fits and finding contact details for their management and sending over my portfolio. The email template I have been using is:
I received a response from a management company with an impressive roster, they said they currently don't have anything but have added me to their list of creatives and will contact me in the future when something suitable comes up.
The application process involved me _____.
For this unit, we will be thinking about who we are and where we want to take our career once we finish college. We will be developing our professional persona and presenting ourselves to the creative industries with our CVs, portfolios, networking skills, etc.

CV

As I want to work in the music industry when I leave college, I tailored my CV to only include experience relevant to that industry. I took out all the information about my part-time hospitality work and instead listed all the music experience I have.

Once I was happy with the draft, I had a friend in the industry (who works at a label) read over it and check it was alright. I had listed my experience by relevance, but she said it would be better to change the order to by date, starting with the most recent at the top. I adjusted this and she checked it again and said it was perfect.

CONTEXT & PROPOSAL
I confirm that the attached assessment is all my own work and does not include any work completed by anyone other than myself and sources have been appropriately referenced.
ORIGINAL PROPOSAL:
Candidate Name: Indy Brewer
Candidate Number:
Pathway: Event Management
Project Title: Music Podcast
Section 1: Rationale

Through the first 11 units of this course, I have acquired a variety of skills, including - evaluating my work & progress, liaising with others for group projects and identifying a range of sources to use for personal research projects. I have developed a better understanding of the music industry as a whole from my projects inside and outside of college and can use this knowledge to further my career. Before I started the course, I wasn’t as aware of everything going on in the music industry, especially in the events industry, but now feel like I know enough to progress my career in sectors other than journalism and photography. This has influenced my choice for my FMP as I will be able to set up and run a successful podcast which aims to raise awareness around gender inequality in music and offer some solutions for it.

Section 2: Concept

For my FMP, I’d like to focus on offering solutions to the gender imbalance in creative industries, specifically the music industry. I have a few projects outside of college I’m working on which I’d like to incorporate into my final project to achieve this. My aims of this project are to provide women in the music industry a chance to get noticed and develop their careers. I already have a music website - About That Record - and aim to get more female artists involved with the site. I will also be setting up a podcast with Charlotte Marston, a music journalist, where the guests will be women working in the music industry discussing what they do, how they got there, as well as any experiences they’d like to share. The podcast is seeking to empower women in the industry and address gender inequality. The target audience will be women who are looking to work in the industry, or anyone who’s interested in listening to the guests’ experiences. Research for this project will come from books, articles, and interviews I will conduct with people working in the music industry. I’ll need Wordpress, Zencastr, Adobe software & social media platforms for this project to come together. It will be presented via the podcast on Spotify, social media accounts created exclusively for the podcast, as well as About That Record. I will also be taking photos of MET Fest and using these pictures throughout the project.

Section 3: Evaluation

I will reflect on my work throughout this project with weekly diaries & evaluations on how the past week has gone and whether I am succeeding in completing my aims. I will make a note of everything I’m doing in regards to the project every day and at the end of the week write a summary of how I felt it went and what I can do to improve for the next week. I will also use constructive feedback from others to evaluate the success of this project - i.e. from those I’m collaborating with, listeners of the podcast, friends, etc. As I’m working on the project, I will take pictures of everything I’m doing and explain any changes I make and why I’ve made them. At the end of the project, I will conclude how I feel it has gone based on whether I reached my goals and using previous evaluation.

Section 2: Concept

For my FMP, I’d like to focus on developing my photography skills and using these to take pictures of musicians to update my portfolio. I have a few upcoming shoots both in and outside of college which I’d like to incorporate into my final project. My aims of this project are to improve my photography skills, network more, and take new photos with the improved skills to use on my portfolio. This will help my career outside of college as by the end of the project I’ll have an updated portfolio and better understanding of pitching to clients. The target audience will be musicians, music industry professionals, music fans, and those who like photography. Research for this project will come from Instagram, Pinterest, Google Images, books and articles. I will use websites like Canva to create moodboards to present some of my research for individual shoots. I will also need my camera, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Portfolio, Wix, WeTransfer, Format and social media platforms for this project to come together. It will be presented via my personal portfolio, a new website created exclusively for this project, and my social media platforms.
