During Year 1, I was able to identify many strengths throughout my projects. I was able to figure out what I was good at and what needed to be done in Year 2 to improve. My strengths throughout the 2 projects were:

PERSONAL MANAGEMENT

  • Networking

  • In depth ecosystem with lots of research

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of own and others roles in the delivery of a performance

  • High level of practical skills

  • Dealings with people in the music industry

  • Present myself and my work to a specified audience.

WEAKNESSES

I also had quite a few weaknesses in Year 1, a lot being due to my poor time management. As our FMP was cancelled due to Covid-19, I was not able to improve on these during it so will need to work hard in Year 2 to ensure that they are strengths by next June ready for my next chapter in life.

  • Locating, accessing and using info to support own development

  • Demonstrate sensitivity to individual needs

THEORETICAL

  • Critically compare a range of critical perspectives that influence the analysis of performing and production arts activities.

  • Critically compare a range of contexts within which performing and production arts are situated. - didn’t do the playlists and comments

PERSONAL MANAGEMENT

  • Contributing to and completing tasks within a given framework and timescale

OPPORTUNITIES

  • Bigger industry network compared to Year 1

My networked has broadened a lot since Year 1 - I have more music connections in Brighton now and can use these contacts to assist what I do for my FMP.

  • Music Venue Trust’s Fightback Promoter Programme

I joined MVT’s Fightback Promoter Programme in January and was going to put on a gig in aid of grassroots venues and MVT’s work in May. However, the pandemic meant it has been pushed back and so hopefully in May I will be able to take part in this programme and use it towards my FMP.

  • Doing more jobs in the industry

I have broadened out my roles in the industry. As well as being a photographer, I am now a manager and promoter so I have more skills I can use towards my FMP. It will provide me with more content for the project and give variety to it.

THREATS

  • Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions mean events may not be able to go ahead

Everything is still uncertain and the current restrictions may still be here or even tighter when our FMPs happen and so this means we may not be able to book any events. We will have to have contingency plans to make the event virtual if needed.

  • Less networking opportunities

With current events, it’s made networking in the industry quite difficult as gigs and events are the best place to do it. This means opportunities in the industry for my FMP won’t be as much as they were last year as there hasn’t been as many chances to make contacts for it.

  • Intending to organise a gig in Brighton to gain promotion experience for myself during the Spring

The Great Escape and Brighton Fringe take place in Spring in Brighton and this means venue availability is very limited, as well as artist availability. It may also be difficult to draw in a crowd and break even with 80% capacity due to these events going ahead.
