PROJECT EVALUATION

This project, although it didn't go exactly to plan, went really well. My main goal was to build my network, especially in Brighton, and I have achieved this.

I found as I went through the project that I wasn't sticking to the schedule on the job list. This was due to me misjudging when I would get things done as I didn't plan for extra things happening (like a few gig passes and a photoshoot), as well as finding some things had to be done in a different order. It was easier to go with the flow and incorporate each job into the weeks depending on what I had going on that week (ie a gig, a photoshoot, etc). I still got all the jobs done (bar some of the About That Record ones) and felt I did them better by planning them like that. One thing I didn't do but need to next time is to make sure I leave spare time each week incase of something unexpected happening so I can catch up on missed work. During this project, I was ill for a few weeks and my laptop broke. Both of these things really set me back and it was difficult to catch up on them as I had hardly any spare time to do so.

The Christmas party was a weak area in this project, however. We, as a group, didn't communicate with each other properly and were left panicking a couple of weeks before the event about what we needed to get done. If someone wasn't in on one day, it caused delays in the planning due to us not sharing all the information with each other and not being aware of the tasks that still needed doing. By the end of the planning, we had sorted our communication out and if we were to do a group event again it would be planned a lot better. The event itself still went extremely well, with a big turnout and positive response from those who attended. The artists who performed were all brilliant and a lot of people got involved with the karaoke at the end.

I had a few issues with the redesign of About That Record which as a result meant I was not able to achieve what I wanted with the site for this project. There was an issue with importing the theme (my plan was no longer eligible for the feature) and this in turn delayed the redesigning process, causing everything else to be delayed. Tasks I had planned on doing for the site included updating the social media accounts, creating and sending out a press pack, setting up a YouTube channel and intro, and reaching my target unique visitor number goal of 2500. Although I didn't complete those, I still managed to network the site to a few PR companies from me requesting photo passes for gigs and have been added to their PR lists as a result. I will have About That Record redesigned soon, but after this project has ended.

The photography element of this project went incredibly well. I got photo passes for 6 gigs - including massive artists like Sam Fender and Adam Ant - although I was unable to attend 3 of them. I also did my first photoshoot with a band I had not worked with before and my first music video shoot. I had the opportunity to network with a few professional photographers and artist managers which was extremely useful and gave me a much better insight into the music industry and what I need to do to get where I want to. My network and connections grew a lot from all the photography I did and I even made connections in the video/YouTube industries. Some of the photos I took ended up being some of my best yet and received amazing responses from the artists' fans and industry professionals, which is great. I did more than I expected to and achieved so much in this element of the project. I also created my first photography showreel to use to promote myself to potential clients, as well as an email signature which has increased my reply rate from the people I am emailing.

My final presentation was detailed and I presented it a lot better than my proposal at the beginning of the project. I was a lot more confident with what I was saying and how I presented it which I believe is due to all the networking I have done throughout this project. My confidence is definitely a lot better, although it still needs improving - as do my presenting skills - which I will make sure I work on during my FMP.

Overall, I feel like this project went brilliantly. I was very productive throughout and managed to achieve more things than I originally expected to. This has given me a lot of hope for my FMP as I have bigger things planned for it and know how to organise everything for it properly. Things I need to work on in the future include leaving spare time in my weekly schedules, my presenting skills, communication with the class, and making sure I am following up emails to people.
