LIFE (+ Night Flowers + Our Family Gig) @ Green Door Store - 11.11.2019

This was a gig that took place at Green Door Store as part of LIFE’s current UK tour. LIFE are an alternative band who are currently breaking waves in the music scene with their gritty, political music. They are being supported by big names in the industry, such as IDLES, DIY magazine and MOJO magazine. - www.lifeband.co.uk

There was no specific audience for this gig. Those who attend gigs at Green Door Store do not always go for a specific band as it is a well-trusted venue for discovering new, alternative artists. Fans of the band, fans of the venue, music industry professionals, and general music fans looking for new music would have attended this gig.

The event was held in November in winter. This is important as September - December is ‘touring season’ - the best time for bands to tour. It is after the festival season and so there will be no restrictions imposed by festivals on where bands can play. These restrictions are the reason most artists will not play anything except festivals in the summer - they put limits on what artists can do when they sign the festival contracts.

The gig was promoted on many different social media platforms - the bands’, the venue’s, the promoters, etc. It was also on their websites in the ‘Upcoming Events’ section. Promotional posters were put up in the venue and around Brighton too, as well as features in leaflets/magazines and word of mouth.

Some of the staff roles at the event included:

  • Bar staff

  • Security

  • Bouncers

  • Sound technicians

  • Stage managers

  • Lighting technicians

  • Tour managers

  •

The financial aspects of running this gig included:

  • Wages for the venue employees

  • Payment for the band, their manager, and touring crew

  • Electricity costs

  • Promotional costs (getting the posters designed & printed, running adverts on social media, etc)

I believe it was a successful event - it sold out and there has been a lot of positive feedback about it online. Many people have shared clips onto their Instagram stories of the night and how the band interacted with the audience which will promote the band and generate more hype around them.
