PHOTOGRAPHY SHOWREEL

I created this showreel using iMovie and Photoshop (for the title screen).

I began by choosing the soundtrack. The song I went for is 'Let Her Be' by Starcrawler. I chose this song as I feel it best matches the theme of my photos as I mostly photograph indie/rock bands and have been told by many my photos have a 'rock aesthetic'. I then cut the song so it was only the instrumental parts and put them together as it would be too hard to match the photos to the beat of the vocal parts. I also cut the music on the beats to make it easier to get the photos on beat as I could see where there needed to be photos added and how long they should be.

Once this was done, I looked through all my photos and selected my most popular & favourite ones to include in the showreel. I put them into iMovie and synced them up with the music, also changing the cropping from 'Ken Burns' to 'Fit' to stop the images moving as they played.

The next thing to do was make my title screen. For this, I used Photoshop.

I began by opening a new plain background with the measurements of 1440px x 1080px (to fit in with the size of the video) with a resolution of 650px and added in the background image I wanted to use.

I then moved that layer to the bottom and added in the text. The original font I used was 'DIN Alternate' as this is the standard one but there was not a bold option available for it so I changed it to 'Arial'. I made my name bold and the words underneath thin.

The next step was to cut out the outline of the font from the white background to put the picture as the text. I did this and found the image was aligned in a way where it showed too much of the sky and so I moved it about to show more of the crowd.

I decided that the crowd image didn't work well with the title screen as it was difficult to make out what the words say due to the white sky and didn't show much of what I do. I decided to try another image but this time from a gig to see if it worked better.

I still wasn't happy with the background and decided to try an image focusing on the lighting of a gig and found it worked a lot better so stuck to this.

Once I was happy with how it looked, I exported the image in a JPG file and put it into the beginning of the video with a 'Cross Zoom' transition. I would have ideally liked to have used a video background, but I didn't have any I could use so stuck with the image one.

To create the final part, I exported the video and sped it up to create a quick gallery of images to put under my website address. I then exported this and put it into the showreel video at the end and put my website address on top. I used the 'Spin Out' transition at the end to bring the video to a close.

When this was all done, I exported the video in 1080p and now have it to show to potential clients.
